My Honest Journey with Bitcoin – From Skeptic to Convicted HODLer in 2026

Hey everyone, it’s been a wild ride. If you had told me in 2017 that I would one day write a 10,000-word article about why Bitcoin is probably the most important financial innovation of our lifetime, I would have laughed. Back then I was that guy — the one calling it a scam, a tulip mania, and “magic internet money.”

Fast forward to 2026. I sit here with a significant portion of my net worth in Bitcoin, and I sleep better at night because of it. Let me tell you the full story — the doubts, the mistakes, the lessons, and why I believe we’re still early even now.

The Early Days – Pure Skepticism In 2017, during the first big bull run, everyone around me was talking about Bitcoin hitting $10k. I remember thinking, “This is ridiculous. It has no intrinsic value.” I watched friends make money and then lose most of it in the 2018 crash. That reinforced my bias. I stayed away.

Then came 2020. The pandemic hit. Governments printed trillions. I started reading more deeply — books like “The Bitcoin Standard” by Saifedean Ammous, “Digital Gold” by Nathaniel Popper, and Michael Saylor’s interviews. Something clicked. I realized Bitcoin isn’t just another coin. It’s a new form of money that can’t be inflated away.

My First Purchase – The Emotional Rollercoaster I finally bought my first Bitcoin in late 2020 at around $18,000. The moment I hit “confirm,” my heart was pounding. Within weeks it went to $40k. I felt like a genius. Then came the 2022 bear market. It dropped below $20k. I remember staring at my portfolio, feeling physically sick. Many people sold in panic. I held.

That period taught me the single most important lesson in crypto: Conviction beats timing.

Why Bitcoin Still Makes Sense in 2026 Today, in mid-2026, Bitcoin is trading in a completely different world. Spot ETFs have brought in over $100 billion. Nation-states like El Salvador (and reportedly others quietly) are accumulating. BlackRock, Fidelity, and even some central banks are treating it seriously.

The halving cycles are real. Every four years the new supply gets cut in half. Demand, meanwhile, keeps growing because of institutional adoption, inflation hedging, and the simple fact that Bitcoin is the hardest money ever created.

I often get asked: “Isn’t it too late?” My answer is always the same — compared to what? Compared to gold’s $15+ trillion market cap? Bitcoin still has a long way to go. Compared to global real estate or bonds? We’re still tiny.

Practical Advice from Someone Who’s Been Through Multiple Cycles

  1. Never invest more than you can afford to lose emotionally.
  2. Use dollar-cost averaging (DCA) religiously.
  3. Keep the majority in cold storage.
  4. Re-evaluate your thesis every year, but don’t check price every day.
  5. Build a small support circle of like-minded long-term thinkers.

Bitcoin isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme anymore. It’s becoming a wealth preservation and growth asset for the 21st century. The people who understand this in 2026 will look back in 2035 with gratitude.
