Jean Smart Just Officiated Her Hacks Co-Star’s Wedding, and His One-Word Answer to the Vows Stole the Show
Mark Indelicato spent five seasons as the unflappable assistant standing just behind Deborah Vance, watching the legendary comedian command every room. This weekend, the roles flipped in the sweetest possible way. It was Indelicato who took center stage at the altar, and it was his former on-screen boss, Jean Smart, who stood right there beside him, reading the vows that made him a married man.
The 32-year-old actor married his partner David Watson on Saturday, October 10, in a warm outdoor ceremony that quickly turned into a full Hacks family reunion. And the most talked-about detail was not the venue or the guest list. It was Smart herself, decked out in a champagne-colored silk two-piece outfit, calmly stepping into a role no one had seen her play before: wedding officiant.
The Vows That Broke the Internet’s Heart
Video from the ceremony, shared online by Indelicato’s Hacks co-stars Johnny Sibilly and Hannah Einbinder, shows Smart standing between the two grooms at the altar as she reads the declaration of intent with all the composure of the awards-stage veteran she is.
“Do you, Mark Anthony Indelicato, take David Joel Watson to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, in sickness, in health, for richer, for poorer, as long as you both shall live?” she asked, every word ringing out clear across the garden.
Indelicato did not hesitate for a second. He did not even use a full sentence. His answer was one word, delivered with a grin that had the whole crowd laughing: “Duh.”
Smart played it straight, letting the laughter roll before she delivered the line everyone was waiting for: “Then by the power vested in me by American Marriage Ministers, I now pronounce you husband and husband.” The grooms shared a passionate kiss, the guests erupted, and just like that, Deborah Vance had married off her assistant for real.

A First Dance to a Ballad, and Tears Behind the Camera
After the kiss, the newlyweds moved straight to the dance floor for their first dance as husbands. Their song choice was Paul McCrane’s tender ballad “Is It Okay If I Call You Mine?”, a quiet, romantic pick that set the tone for the rest of the evening.
Both grooms had worn black suits with white collared shirts for the ceremony, a clean and classic look. Later, as the night loosened up, they changed into more casual outfits for the afterparty, with Indelicato spotted in a black tank top, still glowing from the ceremony.
One of the most emotional clips from the night came from Einbinder, who filmed the first dance herself. In the video, she can be heard crying behind the camera as her friend and former co-star danced with his new husband. She also gave a speech at the reception that guests described as heartfelt, a reminder of just how close this cast has stayed off screen.
The Hacks Family Showed Up in Force
If anyone wondered whether the Hacks cast would scatter after the HBO Max series wrapped its fifth and final season in May 2026, this wedding answered that question loudly. The celebration doubled as a full cast reunion.
Among the guests: Einbinder, Meg Stalter, Poppy Liu, Sibilly, and series co-creator and star Paul W. Downs, who also played Deborah’s agent Jimmy LuSaque Jr. on the show. Fellow co-creators Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky were there too. Downs posted a group photo from the reception on his Instagram Stories with the caption, “Congratulations @markindelicato & David. Hacks fam 4eva,” a line that fans are already treating as the night’s official motto.
It is easy to see why the bond runs so deep. Hacks ran for five seasons from 2021 to 2026, following the complicated partnership between Smart’s Deborah Vance, a Las Vegas stand-up comedian fighting a dwindling residency, and Einbinder’s Ava Daniels, a young comedy writer blacklisted over a tweet. Indelicato played Damien, Deborah’s loyal personal assistant, throughout the show’s entire run, and Smart’s performance won her five Primetime Emmy Awards, making her the first actress in history to win for every season of a multi-season show.

From Hinge to Husband
Indelicato and Watson’s love story began the modern way. The actor has shared that the two met on the dating app Hinge, and in a TikTok he once summed up how it happened with a line that could have been written for a rom-com: “I wasn’t looking for anything, and then I met my person.”
For Indelicato, the wedding caps a remarkable two decades in front of the camera. Before he was Damien, he was Justin Suarez, the fashion-obsessed nephew of America Ferrera’s Betty Suarez on Ugly Betty from 2006 to 2010, a role he started playing when he was just a kid. He grew up on television, and now his television family was there to watch him start a new chapter of his own.
Why This One Hit Different
Hollywood weddings are a dime a dozen, and celebrity officiants are hardly new either. But there is something special about this particular pairing. On Hacks, Damien was the person who held everything together behind the scenes for Deborah Vance, the calm center in the middle of her chaos. Seeing Smart, the actual legend who played the demanding boss, standing at the altar guiding her on-screen assistant into married life feels like the show’s real-life finale, the reunion episode fans never got.
The outdoor ceremony, the full-name vows, the one-word answer, the champagne silk suit, the ballad under the string lights, and a room full of people who genuinely love each other: every detail of this wedding felt personal instead of performative. No staged paparazzi shots, no brand deals announced at the altar, just a cast that clearly adores its youngest star.
Congratulations to Mark Indelicato and David Watson. Hacks fam, forever.
