Diddy’s Prison Release Just Got Pushed Back Two Months, and the Lavish Life Report Behind It Reads Like a Hotel Brochure

Sean “Diddy” Combs just lost six weeks of freedom. Bureau of Prisons records now show the disgraced music mogul walking out of FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey on March 2, 2028, instead of January 21, 2028, the date that had been listed just days ago.

The timing is impossible to ignore. The new date surfaced right after an NBC News investigation alleged that Combs, 56, had been living a remarkably pampered life behind bars, complete with personal chefs, laundry service, massages, a smuggled cellphone and a stash of premium cognac. PEOPLE first reported the pushed-back date as an exclusive on October 7, and Page Six confirmed it the next morning.

The new date on the record

According to Bureau of Prisons records viewed by PEOPLE and Page Six, Combs’ projected release is now March 2, 2028. The previous listing, January 21, 2028, had been in place for only a matter of days.

The Bureau itself is saying nothing about the reason. “For privacy, safety, and security reasons, we do not comment on the conditions of confinement for any incarcerated individual, including reasons for a change in release date,” a BOP spokesperson told PEOPLE on Wednesday, October 7.

There is also a new detail about where Combs is sitting right now. After the NBC report aired, he was moved back into the Special Housing Unit, the section better known as solitary confinement, and PEOPLE confirms he remains there as of this week.

The NBC report that started it all

The trouble began with a lengthy NBC News report last month that painted a picture of prison life most inmates could only dream about. Sources told the outlet that Combs had people cooking and cleaning for him behind bars, and even giving him Chinese-style massages.

The outlet also obtained photos and video of the Bad Boy Records founder inside the prison using a contraband cellphone. Sources claimed he used the phone to scroll Instagram and look at sexually explicit photos that an old girlfriend sent him. He was also accused of keeping a secret stash of premium liquor, with one report naming Hennessy cognac, and of using a “jailbroken” tablet to watch movies and documentaries, including Netflix’s “Sean Combs: The Reckoning,” the documentary about his own downfall.

The report alleged Combs had spent thousands of dollars to secure these perks from fellow inmates. His team has pushed back hard on the characterization.

Back to solitary

TMZ broke the news that Combs was sent back to solitary confinement at Fort Dix in the wake of the NBC report, and PEOPLE’s sources confirmed he is still being held there. It is a striking turn for a man who, according to his lawyers, was simply serving his time quietly.

His team calls it ordinary prison life

Combs’ longtime representative, Juda Engelmayer, has dismissed the whole saga. “The continued scrutiny of every mundane detail of Sean Combs’s life in prison has reached the point where the media characterizes ordinary prison life as news,” he told Page Six and USA Today.

On the shifting release date itself, the team says it is in the dark. “We are never given any explanation for how the BOP calculates or adjusts projected release dates, so we cannot speak to the reason for any change,” a spokesperson said, adding that “Sean remains focused on serving his time, awaiting the decision on his appeal and looking forward to spending quality time with his family when he returns home.”

It is the latest chapter in a legal saga that has kept Combs in the headlines long after his trial ended. If courtroom dramas are your thing, FKA Twigs’ recent victory in her own high-stakes legal battle shows how differently these stories can end.

A release date that keeps bouncing around

Combs’ projected release has moved several times since he went behind bars. When he was sentenced, with credit for time served since his arrest in September 2024, his initial projected release was June 2028. That date later moved up to January 21, 2028, which briefly looked like good news for the mogul. Now it has slid back to March 2, 2028.

USA Today notes that the Bureau of Prisons generally adjusts release dates for reasons like inmate conduct, time credits earned from approved programs and activities, and credit for time served before sentencing. The Bureau will not say which of these, if any, apply here.

It is not the first time a prison report has cost him time. Back in November, his release was pushed back to June 2028 just days after his representative denied a report claiming Combs had created and consumed alcohol in prison.

The conviction that put him there

The 50-month federal sentence followed a closely watched trial in New York City in July 2025. A jury convicted Combs on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, while acquitting him of the far more serious racketeering and sex trafficking charges, which could have put him in prison for life.

The conviction is currently under appeal, and his lawyers are fighting it. Until that appeal is decided, the Bureau of Prisons calendar rules his life, and right now that calendar says March 2028.

What happens next

Even with the setback, Combs is still expected to be a free man well before summer 2028, years earlier than the life sentence he once faced. His team insists he is focused on his appeal and on reuniting with his family. His seven children have stood by him through the trial, and Kim Kardashian’s recent comments about holding her own kids back from the spotlight show how differently celebrity parents handle life under a microscope.

But questions will linger about how a man in federal custody ended up with a cellphone, cognac and a personal massage therapist. Until the Bureau explains itself, and it shows no sign of doing so, the March 2 date stands as the latest reminder that in Diddy’s world, even prison time comes with plot twists. For another story of a Hollywood legend baring it all, Michael Douglas’ tell-all memoir proves the confessions never stop coming.
