Madonna Just Bought Angelina Jolie’s $24.75M Los Feliz Estate, and the House’s Hollywood History Is Wilder Than the Price

Two of the biggest names in entertainment history just quietly closed one of the most talked-about real estate deals of the year. Madonna is reportedly the new owner of Angelina Jolie’s historic Los Feliz estate, a two-acre compound that changed hands for $24.75 million after spending roughly four months on the market.

The deal was first flagged by Mansion Global, which reported the sale closed on September 24. House Beautiful and Hola! subsequently identified the buyer as the Queen of Pop, and Parade confirmed the details of the stunning price tag. Representatives for Madonna and Jolie have not publicly confirmed the transaction, which is standard for deals at this level, but the reporting has held firm across multiple outlets for weeks now.

The price tag tells its own strange story

Here is the part that has real estate watchers scratching their heads. Jolie bought this same property in June 2017 for $24.5 million. She listed it in May for $29.85 million. The final sale price of $24.75 million means she walked away with only about $250,000 more than she originally paid, and that is before accounting for nine years of taxes, maintenance, staff, insurance, and commissions. In the world of luxury Los Angeles real estate, where nine years usually buys you a serious windfall, that is practically breaking even. Celebrities are spending big on luxury this season, from $8,570 matching gold bands in Paris to historic estates.

For Madonna, though, it looks like a well-timed move. The roughly $5 million discount from the asking price makes this one of the shrewdest celebrity purchases of the year. And if her track record is anything to go by, she knows exactly what she is doing. She bought The Weeknd’s Hidden Hills compound for $19.3 million in 2021 and sold it in 2023 for $23 million, pocketing a tidy profit. Before that, she owned the historic Castillo del Lago on Mulholland Drive from 1993 to 1996 and a sprawling Beverly Hills mansion from 2003 to 2015.

She bought it without ever walking through the front door

One of the most talked-about details of this deal is how it happened. According to the New York Post, Madonna never inspected the property in person. Her team arranged a private video tour after she expressed interest in finding a Los Angeles home, and she bought the place sight unseen.

That sounds wild until you realize how houses like this actually trade. Properties with this kind of pedigree rarely reach the open market in any meaningful way, and when they do, serious buyers move fast. A source told the Post that “Madonna’s people called up, and the tour was arranged,” describing the estate as sitting in “a wonderful colony in the upper Hollywood Hills with a lot of celebrity power.” At a certain level, the history of the house is the inspection.

This is not just a mansion. It is a piece of Hollywood history

The estate sits behind gates in Laughlin Park, one of the most exclusive enclaves in Los Feliz, a neighborhood that has long drawn actors, musicians, and filmmakers. The main residence dates back to 1913 and spans about 11,000 square feet, with six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms.

But the real story is who has owned it before. Legendary filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille bought the property in 1916 and lived there for decades, expanding the estate around 1920 by acquiring a neighboring house that had previously been leased by Charlie Chaplin himself. The estate stayed in the DeMille family until the late 1980s, which means Madonna is now only the third famous custodian of a property that has been in Hollywood’s hands for more than a century.

Walk through it and you feel that history everywhere. The interior keeps much of its early 20th century character, with a grand curved staircase, arched doorways, and original wood-paneled walls. The primary suite is a centerpiece: a private sitting area, a marble fireplace, a spa-inspired bathroom, and custom dressing rooms, with French doors opening onto a terrace overlooking the grounds.

What $24.75 million actually gets you

Beyond the main house, the roughly 2.1-acre grounds read like a private resort. There is a mahogany-paneled library with floor-to-ceiling shelving, a climate-controlled wine cellar, a dedicated gym, a guesthouse with a full suite, a pool house, a tea house, and a 40-foot swimming pool set against manicured lawns and a thick canopy of trees. The kitchen has been brought up to date with high-end appliances and marble countertops, including a glass-enclosed breakfast room that opens directly into the gardens.

For a star of Madonna’s stature, the privacy is probably the biggest selling point. Laughlin Park is a gated community where neighbors have included the likes of Carole Lombard and Cary Grant back in the day, and more recently Ellen Pompeo and Kristen Stewart. It is the kind of place where famous people can actually live something resembling a normal life.

Why Jolie is letting it go

The sale fits into a bigger picture for Jolie. She has said she plans to spend less time in the United States once her youngest children reached adulthood, and the twins turned 18 in July 2026. Selling the Los Feliz compound severs one of her biggest remaining ties to Los Angeles, and the timing lines up exactly with what she said she would do.

There is something quietly poetic about the whole thing. One of the most famous actresses on the planet bought a director’s legendary estate, lived there for nine years, and has now handed it to one of the most famous musicians on the planet. The house on De Mille Drive has now been owned by a founding father of Hollywood, an Oscar-winning actress, and the best-selling female recording artist of all time. Whatever Madonna does with it next, this address was never going to be an ordinary listing.

A year of big moves for the Queen of Pop

The purchase comes during an active stretch for Madonna. She accepted the Artist of the Year Award at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on September 27, reminding everyone that four decades in, she is still collecting trophies and headlines in equal measure. She is not the only music legend dominating the headlines either: Shakira’s surprise duet with Dua Lipa in Madrid had fans in a frenzy just days ago. Meanwhile, Hollywood’s celebrity couples keep making news this fall. But a $24.75 million historic estate purchase? Only Madonna does it quite like this.
