Amal Clooney Just Went Full Liquid Gold to Host Her Own Awards Night, and the Guest List Was Pure Hollywood Royalty
On Friday night, London’s Natural History Museum traded dinosaur skeletons for diamonds. George and Amal Clooney rolled out the red carpet for the fifth annual Albies, the awards night they created to honor the world’s bravest fighters for justice. And if you came for the fashion, Amal made sure you got it in solid gold.

A gold gown with a mission behind it
Amal Clooney, 48, has made a habit of turning the Albies into her own personal fashion runway, and this year she outdid herself. The human rights lawyer arrived in a molded off-the-shoulder Gucci gown dripping with gold sequins along the torso and falling into layers of beaded fringe. She finished the look with a bejeweled clutch, statement earrings, and gold pointed-toe heels, her dark hair falling in soft waves with an old-Hollywood side part.
George Clooney, 65, played the perfect counterpoint in a classic black tuxedo, also by Gucci. The pair’s sartorial synchronicity was no accident: Gucci signed on as the fashion partner for the Albies for the very first time this year, joining returning sponsors Charlotte Tilbury Beauty and Microsoft.
There was a nice sense of history to the choice too. At the very first Albies in New York back in 2022, Amal arrived in a beaded gold Versace number that set the template for everything after. Five years later, she came full circle with a gown that nods to where it all began, while keeping the evening’s focus exactly where it belongs. For comparison, last year’s look was a chocolate brown Atelier Versace gown designed by Dario Vitale. This time she went for pure metallic drama, and the cameras loved it.
What the Albies are really about
Strip away the gowns and the guest list, and the Albies are doing something most celebrity events never manage: putting the spotlight on people whose names you probably do not know, but whose courage has changed lives.
The awards were created by the Clooneys through their Clooney Foundation for Justice in 2022 and named after Justice Albie Sachs, the South African anti-apartheid campaigner who survived brutal persecution in the fight for equality. This year’s honorees include Kyrgyz journalists Bolot Temirov and Makhabat Tazhibek Kyzy, Malawian girls’ rights advocate Vanessa Mwangala, American photojournalist Lynsey Addario, the Congolese organization Justice Plus, and Microsoft vice chair and president Brad Smith, recognized for his human rights advocacy.
In a statement shared with WWD, the Clooneys said: “This year’s Albie honorees embody the values at the heart of our foundation. Through these awards, we want them and everyone advocating for justice around the globe to know that the world is watching and that they are not alone.”
Comedian Graham Norton emceed the evening, which has been held in London for the past two years after beginning in New York City.

The guest list read like a phone book of fame
When the Clooneys throw a party, Hollywood shows up. Leading the charge was George’s longtime best friend Brad Pitt, who walked in with girlfriend Ines de Ramon, a rare joint appearance for the couple. Supermodel Emily Ratajkowski brought the glamour, while Josh Hartnett arrived with his wife Tamsin Egerton.
The fashion world was well represented too. Donatella Versace and Vogue’s Anna Wintour both made the trip to the museum, and makeup mogul Charlotte Tilbury attended as one of the night’s sponsors. Bianca Jagger, Laura Dern, Isla Fisher, Emma Thompson, Felicity Jones, and the Industry duo of Marisa Abela and Myha’la Herrold rounded out a crowd that also included Melinda Gates, Dominic West, Poppy Delevingne, Joel Edgerton, Richard Kind, and Hannah Waddingham.
Why this night hits different
It is easy to roll your eyes at another red carpet, but the Albies land differently because Amal Clooney is not playing a role. She is an actual human rights lawyer who has spent her career representing journalists and political prisoners, and George has spent decades campaigning on Darfur and other global causes. When they say the evening puts attention on people who do not get enough of it, they have the record to back it up.
That blend of substance and sparkle is exactly the point. A museum full of celebrities and cameras means the Kyrgyz journalists, the Malawian advocate, the Congolese organization, and every other honoree walk out with the one thing money cannot buy: the world actually watching.
London has already had its share of starry nights this week, but the Albies remain in a category of their own. Charity galas carry real weight when the right people show up, as Taylor Swift’s upcoming Academy Museum Gala performance proves. And Hollywood power couples showing up for a cause never go out of style.

And honestly, the gold dress helped.
