Austin North Proposed in His Backyard, and His Outer Banks Co-Stars Could Not Contain Their Joy

There is a wedding coming to the Outer Banks, but not the kind fans see on screen. Austin North, who plays Topper Thornton on the hit Netflix series, just asked his girlfriend Cali Fuller to marry him, and the proposal was as sweet and low key as it gets.

The couple revealed the happy news on Sunday, October 11, 2026, with a joint post on Instagram that sent fans into a frenzy within hours. And if the reaction of his co-stars is anything to go by, this is one engagement the whole cast is thrilled about.

The Backyard Proposal

Forget grand gestures and private jets. Austin North popped the question in a backyard setting, keeping the moment intimate and personal. The couple shared a set of proposal photos on Instagram, and the joy in the pictures says everything.

Cali captioned the announcement, “Written well before we knew,” set to the song “Reckless Love” by Cory Asbury. Austin shared the post on his own Instagram story, confirming that yes, this is really happening.

The proposal clearly caught Cali completely off guard. On her own Instagram story, she called it the “biggest (&best) surprise of my entire life,” and she was not done gushing there.

Cali Got Two Surprises in One Day

In one of the sweetest details of the announcement, Cali shared a photo of herself hugging Austin alongside his mom, Karen, and wrote, “the Lord knew I needed them both,” adding, “not only did I get the man of my dreams, but his mom too.”

She also posted a video of herself jumping around with excitement while flashing her brand new engagement ring for the camera. If the ring is anything to go by, Austin did his homework.

The Co-Stars React

It did not take long for the Outer Banks family to show up in the comments, and their reactions are everything fans hoped for.

Madison Bailey, who plays Kiara, wrote, “ahhh!! congratulations yall.” Chase Stokes, the show’s John B, kept it brotherly with a simple “Congrats brother.” Jonathan Daviss, who plays Pope, went all caps with “CONGRATULATIONS BROTHER.” Even J Anthony Crane joined in, writing, “That's fabtiastic. Congrats big guy. What a gent.”

When your fictional enemies and best friends all show up to celebrate, you know you picked the right people. The Pogues versus the Kooks may be an on-screen war, but off screen this cast is one big family.

How Austin and Cali's Love Story Began

The couple went public with their relationship in early 2026, when both of them posted declarations about each other on social media. Austin's post was a simple heart emoji, while Cali described the start of their public journey as “an answered prayer !!”

Since then, the pair has shared occasional glimpses into their lives together through photos, and fans have watched the relationship grow from sweet to serious. Now, just months after going Instagram official, they are engaged.

Who Is Austin North?

Austin North is 30 years old and has been acting since his teens. Many fans first met him on the Disney Channel, where he played Logan Watson on the sitcom I Didn't Do It, which ran from 2014 to 2015.

But it was his role as Topper Thornton on Outer Banks that turned him into a household name. Topper started as the privileged Kook rival to John B and the Pogues, but over the show's run he became one of its most layered characters. North has played him since the series premiered on Netflix in 2020.

The show is currently airing its fifth and final season, which means the cast is in the middle of saying goodbye to the characters that made them stars. For Austin, that goodbye just got a lot sweeter, because a whole new chapter is beginning in his real life.

What Is Next for the Outer Banks Cast?

With Outer Banks wrapping up its final season, fans are watching closely to see where each cast member goes next. Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Rudy Pankow, and Carlacia Grant have all built massive followings off the back of the show, and Hollywood is paying attention.

For Austin, the future now includes wedding planning. Whether the ceremony is a backyard affair like the proposal or a full blown Hollywood event, one thing is certain: the Outer Banks family will be there, and the photos will be adorable.
