Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato Just Brought Back Delena After 18 Years, and Fans Say It Is Their Whole Childhood

Some reunions are planned for months by big marketing teams. This one feels different. When Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato sat down together for a new vlog this week, it did not feel like a product launch. It felt like two childhood best friends picking up a conversation they started when they were barely teenagers, and millions of fans who grew up watching them felt it instantly.

On Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Gomez’s beauty brand Rare Beauty announced the Delena Soft Pinch Blush Bundle, a collaboration built entirely around the friendship between its founder and Lovato. The announcement came with a new vlog recreating the homemade videos the pair used to post in 2008, and the internet reacted exactly the way you would expect. Fans called it their whole childhood, and honestly, they are not wrong.

The announcement fans had waited 18 years to see

Rare Beauty broke the news on Instagram with a greeting longtime fans recognized immediately: “YO YO YO.” It was the same playful opening from the original Delena vlogs, the low budget YouTube videos Gomez and Lovato made together back in 2008, full of inside jokes, giggling, and the kind of easy chemistry you cannot fake.

“18 years later, Delena is back with a vlog, and yes, they’re still making each other (and us!) blush,” the brand wrote. Gomez added her own caption to the campaign photos: “Once a Princess, always a Princess. Best friends don’t just have each other’s backs. They make them blush too.”

The bundle itself is simple and clever. It pairs two shades of Rare Beauty’s bestselling Soft Pinch Liquid Blush: Hope, a nude mauve shade picked by Gomez, and Virtue, a beige peach shade picked by Lovato. A complimentary Soft Pinch Blush Brush comes with the set, which is available now at rarebeauty.com.

For the campaign photos, the two stars even recreated poses from the poster of their 2009 Disney Channel movie, Princess Protection Program. Crowns, gowns, and all. It was the kind of detail that only makes sense if you remember the original, and clearly, millions of people do.

A friendship that started when they were seven

To understand why this reunion hit so hard, you have to go back much further than 2008. Gomez and Lovato met when they were just seven years old, both cast on the children’s show Barney and Friends. They grew up in the spotlight side by side, then found fame separately on the Disney Channel: Gomez starring in Wizards of Waverly Place, Lovato leading Camp Rock and Sonny With a Chance.

In 2008, at the height of their Disney years, they started filming short vlogs together and posting them on YouTube. The videos had no polish and no agenda. They talked about crushes, sang into hairbrushes, and laughed at their own jokes. Fans gave the pair a combined nickname, Delena, and it stuck for nearly two decades.

The next year, they starred together in Princess Protection Program, playing a princess and the regular teenager hired to protect her. They also recorded the song “One and the Same” for the movie, and in their new vlog they revisited that moment. Gomez recalled that recording the song felt like their moment of feeling like Avril Lavigne, while Lovato added that Kelly Clarkson was always the other reference point. Then they played the song and jammed out to it together, just like old times.

How they found their way back to each other

Like most long friendships, theirs has moved through different chapters. In a new interview with ELLE, Lovato spoke honestly about the fact that they have not always been in constant contact, and that this reunion came from a real reconnection, not a business plan.

“Friends are in each other’s lives heavily at times, and then sometimes you’re not in constant communication,” Lovato said. “But Selena is someone that I’ve always loved and adored. It’s really great to be in a place today where we can collaborate on things, but also just hang out and spend time together.”

The turning point came in April 2026, when Gomez attended the opening night of Lovato’s It’s Not That Deep Tour in Orlando, Florida. The two reconnected backstage, and the Rare Beauty project followed naturally from there.

Lovato also admitted she recently rewatched their old YouTube videos with her husband, Jordan “Jutes” Lutes. Watching herself as a teenager was, in her words, a little embarrassing. “But they were iconic,” she added. She is right, and the fans agree.

Even their red carpet history got a mention. As kids, the pair used to practice poses together for the day they would walk a red carpet as stars. They finally tried one of those rehearsed poses at the 2011 Teen Choice Awards, and it did not go quite as planned. “We started laughing because we thought we would look so much cooler than we actually did,” Lovato told ELLE. It was, she said, so much better planned in their heads.

Why this one feels different from a normal celebrity collab

Celebrity beauty collaborations are everywhere now, and most of them are forgotten within a week. This one landed differently because it is not really about blush. It is about a friendship that survived child stardom, separate careers, quiet years apart, and a very public life in front of cameras since childhood.

Gomez said it best in her statement about the campaign. “The experiences I’ve shared with Demi are truly unique,” she said. “Coming together for this campaign was a beautiful reminder of that history and a chance to celebrate who we are today. One and the same… always.”

The new vlog leans all the way into that nostalgia. Gomez and Lovato dance around a bedroom, take vintage webcam photos, look through old pictures together, journal about crushes, and lip sync into makeup brushes while answering fan questions.

Fans responded within minutes of the announcement. “I’m literally sobbing this is my whole childhood,” one wrote. “Omg, my two favorites princesses together. We missed you a lot,” wrote another. A third summed up the mood for everyone: “THE BEST COLLABORATION IN HISTORY!!!! ICONICSSSS, I LOVE THEM SO MUCHHHH.”

It is easy to be cynical about nostalgia marketing, and this campaign will certainly sell a lot of blush. But there is something genuinely sweet about watching two people who met at seven, became famous as teenagers, drifted, and then found each other again as adults, deciding to celebrate it in public. The blush shades are named Hope and Virtue. Given the story behind them, the names feel almost too perfect.

If you grew up watching Delena, this week probably felt like opening a time capsule. Eighteen years later, they are still making each other blush.
