Zazie Beetz reveals pregnancy at the Nocturne New York premiere, night scene outside a theater with red carpet

Zazie Beetz Just Bared Her Baby Bump on the Nocturne Red Carpet, and Her First Pregnancy Reveal Was Pure Magic

The Red Carpet Announcement Nobody Saw Coming

Zazie Beetz knows how to make an entrance. On Tuesday night, the 35-year-old actress arrived at the New York City premiere of her new Apple TV series Nocturne and gave the cameras something far more memorable than a fashion moment: her growing baby bump. By baring her belly on the red carpet at Regal Union Square, Beetz announced she is expecting her first child with her husband, actor and screenwriter David Rysdahl.

It was the kind of reveal that stops a press line cold. Instead of hiding behind layers or waiting for a magazine cover, Beetz chose the most public possible setting and wore her news proudly. The two-piece striped skirt suit she selected, from Maximilian Raynor’s spring 2027 collection, was clearly picked to show off the bump rather than conceal it, much like Kylie Jenner’s headline-grabbing Victoria’s Secret debut earlier this month. In several photos from the evening, Rysdahl, 39, can be seen posing beside her with his hand gently resting on her belly, the couple smiling as cameras clicked around them.

A representative for Beetz could not immediately be reached for comment, which hardly mattered. The images told the whole story on their own, and fans flooded social media within hours to celebrate the news.

A Love Story Ten Years in the Making

For anyone who has followed Beetz’s career, the announcement feels like the natural next chapter of one of Hollywood’s quietest love stories. The actress and Rysdahl have been together since 2014, having first met nearly a decade ago in an acting workshop. They married in 2023 at Salveymühle by Zaza in Germany, Beetz’s birth country, keeping the ceremony intimate and low key, true to their style.

Beetz confirmed their engagement publicly during an interview with Vanity Fair in May 2022, and the two have built a creative partnership alongside their marriage. In a 2022 interview with the New York Daily News, Rysdahl described how they approach the industry together, saying they came into it as collaborators who wanted to support the voices they care about. That partnership eventually grew into their own production company, Sleepy Poppy, through which Beetz also serves as an executive producer. Like Samie Elishi’s recent baby announcement, which the couple shared on their own terms through a joint Instagram post, the reveal was personal and self-directed.

They have even shared the screen before, working together on camera, though both have mostly preferred to keep the spotlight on their work rather than their relationship. That discretion made Tuesday’s very public reveal all the sweeter.

The Series at the Center of the Night

The occasion for the reveal was no small event. Nocturne is Apple TV’s new 10-episode crime drama, and the premiere drew a full red carpet of talent. The series stars Liev Schreiber as Jonah Lynn, an ex-soldier turned homicide detective who leaves Philadelphia for a quieter life in a small western Pennsylvania town, only to be pulled into a deadly investigation when serial killer Jurek Walter, played by Stephen Graham, comes under attack himself.

Beetz plays Saga Bauer, an FBI agent and Jonah’s surrogate daughter, who is forced to go up against Jurek when the search for his last missing victim takes a desperate turn. Schreiber and Graham both attended the premiere, alongside co-stars Rory Culkin, Chrissy Metz, Gary Carr, and Poorna Jagannathan.

The show is based on the internationally bestselling crime novel The Sandman by Lars Kepler, and will make its global debut on Friday, October 30, 2026, with the first two episodes, followed by new episodes every Friday through December 25, 2026.

What This Means for One of Hollywood’s Most Interesting Careers

Beetz has spent the last decade building one of the most distinctive filmographies in the business. Her breakout on Atlanta earned her an Emmy nomination, and she went on to scene-stealing turns in Deadpool 2 and Joker. Rather than chase franchise paychecks, she has consistently picked projects with real texture, and Nocturne fits that pattern perfectly.

The pregnancy announcement adds a personal milestone to a professional hot streak. Between her acting work and Sleepy Poppy, Beetz has been quietly positioning herself as a producer with real taste, and fans are already speculating about whether motherhood will influence the kinds of stories she chooses to tell next.

The Fashion Choice That Said Everything

It is worth pausing on the outfit, because it was clearly deliberate. The striped two-piece skirt suit from Maximilian Raynor’s spring 2027 collection, a cropped jacket paired with a high-waisted skirt, framed the bump like a spotlight. In an industry where pregnancy announcements often arrive through stylists and magazine shoots, Beetz treated her red carpet look as the announcement itself.

That confidence has always been part of her appeal. Whether it was her offbeat style on the Atlanta press tour or her playful takes at earlier premieres, Beetz dresses like someone who knows exactly what she wants to say. On Tuesday night, the message was impossible to miss.

Fans, Friends, and What Comes Next

Reaction online was immediate and warm. Within hours of the first photos appearing, fans and fellow actors were sharing congratulations, with many pointing out how fitting it was that Beetz chose a work premiere rather than a paparazzi ambush for her reveal. The story was widely covered, with People and Just Jared both reporting the announcement from the New York premiere. Nobody will know whether she planned the timing for months or simply decided that Tuesday felt right, but the effect was the same: a happy surprise that dominated the night’s headlines.

Details like the baby’s due date and gender have not been shared, and knowing this couple’s taste for privacy, they may stay that way for a while. What is certain is that the next chapter of Zazie Beetz’s story will be one of the most closely watched in Hollywood. First comes Nocturne on October 30, then comes the baby. It is a very good year to be Zazie Beetz.

If her track record is anything to go by, whatever comes next will be worth watching. For now, though, the headline is simple and joyful: Zazie Beetz is going to be a mom, and she let the world know in the most Zazie Beetz way possible, honestly, stylishly, and completely on her own terms.
