Heidi Klum Just Teased Her 2026 Halloween Costume, and Fans Cannot Agree Whether It Is Underwater or Just Plain Gross
Heidi Klum has done it again. With Halloween exactly one week away, the supermodel known as the Queen of Halloween shared a close-up teaser of her 2026 costume, and it is gloriously confusing. There is no face. There is no costume reveal. There is just a strange, colorful, slimy-looking prosthetic filling the frame, and one very simple question from Heidi herself: what is it?
That is the whole game, and Heidi knows exactly how to play it. Every year, her Halloween transformation is one of the most talked about moments of the season, not because she announces it early, but because she refuses to. She drops a clue, lets the internet argue about it for a week, and then walks out in something nobody quite predicted.
The teaser that started it all
On Saturday, October 24, Klum posted the close-up photo to Instagram. The image shows what looks like an extravagant prosthetic, a cluster of textured shapes and colors molded together. Depending on who you ask, it looks like a coral reef, a pile of organs, a mushroom colony, or something pulled straight out of a horror film.
Her caption kept it short: “What’s my costume? One week to go…. #HeidiHalloween.” She added Halloween emojis, but no hint about the character, no face, and no clue about how the pieces fit into the final look.
PEOPLE also noted that Klum shared a short video to her Instagram Stories showing herself browsing a store filled with thousands of fabrics. It was a small behind the scenes moment, but it was another sign that the build is well underway. This is not a last minute costume grabbed off a rack.

What fans think it could be
The comments turned into a guessing game within hours, and three big theories quickly took over. None of them are confirmed, and at least one of them has to be wrong, because Heidi loves a twist.
The underwater theory
The most popular guess is that Heidi is going underwater. Fans pointed to the coral-like texture in the teaser and suggested a coral reef, possibly inspired by St Barths. Others went more specific: sea urchins, a sea cucumber, or even Ursula from The Little Mermaid.
It would make sense. An ocean creature would give her makeup team plenty to work with, and it could be beautiful, strange, and completely unrecognizable, which is exactly the kind of transformation she says she loves most.
The horror movie theory
Then there is the darker camp. Several fans guessed that the teaser shows Monstro Elisasue, the grotesque creation from the 2024 horror film The Substance. Others suggested the Clickers from The Last of Us, the mushroom covered infected creatures from the hit HBO series, or the Demogorgons from Stranger Things.
This theory fits with what Heidi herself has hinted. In September, she told PEOPLE that she was already hard at work on this year’s costume and teased that it would be a “very bloody” look that “goes very well with red wine.” Parade reported a similar September hint, with Heidi simply saying: “It’s bloody.” If the costume is meant to be bloody, a horror creature is a very strong contender.
The just plain gross theory
And then there are fans who are not trying to name a character at all. “Looks like organs,” one fan wrote. Another said the pieces looked like internal organs torn in half.
That reaction might be the point. Heidi’s best costumes are not just pretty. They are unsettling in the best way. They make you look twice, then look away, then look again. A teaser that makes people slightly uncomfortable is doing its job perfectly.
Why Heidi takes this so seriously
To understand why one close-up photo can dominate celebrity news for a day, you have to know the track record. Heidi Klum does not do Halloween halfway. She commits, for hours, in the makeup chair.
Last year, for her 24th annual Halloween party at the Hard Rock Hotel in New York, she arrived as Medusa. Her entire body was covered in green scales, the costume included a long tail, and animatronic snakes replaced her hair. Her husband, Tom Kaulitz, joined her as a concrete soldier turned to stone, a perfect nod to the myth that anyone who looks at Medusa turns to stone. Her caption that night said it all: “HAPPY HEIDIWEEN. Don’t stare too long or you’ll turn to stone.”
The year before that run, in 2023, she was a peacock, another full transformation that took hours of work. And her countdown of past looks reads like a list of dares: a worm, an old lady, an alien, E.T., and a skinless human body. She has said she especially loves the costumes where she becomes utterly unrecognizable, and she once said she loved making herself really old because that kind of transformation is a lot of fun.

What we know, and what we do not know yet
Here is what is actually confirmed so far. Heidi Klum, 53, shared a close-up teaser on October 24. The costume involves an elaborate prosthetic. She has described the look as bloody. She was recently filmed shopping for fabrics. And the reveal is one week away.
Here is what is not confirmed: the character, the theme, whether her husband will dress to match, and where exactly this year’s party will take place. All of that is still secret, and Heidi clearly likes it that way. The teaser gives fans just enough to argue about, and not enough to spoil the surprise.
Why this teaser works so well
There is a simple reason Heidi’s Halloween posts always land. Most celebrity Halloween content is a finished photo with a caption written after the fact. Heidi’s is a story told in real time. First comes the hint. Then comes the guessing. Then comes the reveal, live, in front of cameras, after hours of transformation.
It also helps that she has earned her audience’s trust. Fans know she will sit through the prosthetics, the paint, and the fittings, and she will not phone it in. So when she posts a strange close-up and asks what it could be, people do not scroll past. They zoom in.
So, what is Heidi Klum going to be this Halloween? A coral reef? A movie monster? Something from the deep sea, or something from a nightmare? Right now, nobody outside her inner circle knows for sure. And that is exactly how she wants it.
One thing is certain, though. When she finally walks out in full costume, the internet will have its answer. Until then, the guessing game is the show, and if history is any guide, the real costume will be even stranger than the teaser.
